Accurate Statistics MATTER!
t-Rump didn't like “numbers” so he
fired the qualified person who was the Bureau of Labor and Statistics Commissioner, Erika McEntarfer.
Then replaced her with another sycophant, E.J. Antoni who is not only unqualified but who will only post numbers approved by his puppet master.
Numbers MATTER! But accuracy MATTERS more!
(The CPI (Consumer Price Index) is crucial for multiple reasons, and one of them is not because of what it is but what it represents. The gathering of data exemplifies our ambition for a stable, coherent society. The United States is an Enlightenment project based on the supremacy of reason; on the idea that things can be empirically tested; that there are self-evident truths; that liberty, progress and constitutional government walk arm in arm and together form the recipe for the ideal state. Statistics — numbers created by the state to help it understand itself and ultimately to govern itself — are not some side effect of that project but a central part of what government is and does.)
My son told me an old joke:
“86.375 % of ALL statistics are made up on the spot!"
Funny, but statistically untrue.😊
He attended USC during their time when their team was the greatest college football team of ALL time. (My opinion, not necessarily accurate statistically) Carson Palmer was a Heisman trophy winner. Reggie Bush was a Heisman trophy winner. National Champions in 2003 and 2004.
Fun times for us. We attended some of their games.
I was working in Georgia and Florida back then and had passionate, but friendly, arguments with SEC coworkers.
Statistics were always part of the arguments. Oh, how naive I was then. In the words of those great philosophers, The Beach Boys:
"Wouldn't it be Nice?!” To argue about silly college football statistics instead of existential threats to our entire system of government?
I recently watched "Katy Tur Reports” on MSNBC. One of the guests was a brilliant statistician from Australia, Justin Wolfer. Another was Jake Lahut, a fellow journalist and “numbers nerd."
Lahut attended Michigan State and made a little joke about the Spartans.
When Wolfer, a professor of economics at the University of Michigan responded, he smiled and stated that in a recent Michigan/Michigan State game, Michigan won: 24-17.
What a ten second break from reality! I smiled and began this post.
OMG! It took my tiny brain back to the “good old days" when t-Rump was busy raping teenagers and flying around the world with fellow pedophiles instead of having his stubby fingers on the nuclear button which could obliterate human existence!
Statistics MATTER! But accurate statistics MATTER more! Our capitalist society bases ALL business decisions on ACCURATE statistics from government agencies.
Economic, existential decisions can't be decided on inaccurate statistics from a sycophant to the Velveeta Voldemort.
Not only the United States of America but the world depend on ACCURATE statistics compiled, analyzed and presented by competent analysts.
It was great to smile for a minute when they joked about competing football adversaries. But the survival of our country's system of government and, tragically, the future of world economies depend on ACCURATE estimates of our economic data.
I don't know how to fix this. t-Rump MUST go! His FAUX News and a$$ kissing sycophants must be removed from critical positions in our nation's capitol!
Maybe the “Million Patriot March" I've suggested can finally break through the silence on National Media outlets. If enough of US continue to protest the incompetence and absolute EVIL of this administration, WE can turn this "Titanic“ around before the iceberg cuts a deadly gash in her hull.
I'll be there at EVERY protest I can afford to attend. I'll continue to scream into this hurricane of EVIL here on Substack EVERY day!
C'mon America, we're better than this! Join me in the fight! Join me at the protests! Force the Media to pay attention! WE MUST WIN this WAR!

Chuck as usual you have done an excellent post. I am always so impressed with your take on any issue and this one is no different. The world runs on statistics and it is essential they be correct and accurate or we will be subject to chaos
Excellent article!
