Chuck,, you are right again. History, she repeats herself if we humans are too stupid to learn. And here we are.

I am reading Ray Dalio’s PRINCIPLES FOR DEALING WITH THE CHANGING WORLD ORDER - WHY NATIONS SUCCEED AND FAIL. I highly recommend. It is so insightful in its study of past rises and falls of great nations and societies. Ray is awesome. If you read the book, as Ray describes things, we are late stage 5 of the 6 stages. Extremely worrying.

Chick, thanks for always teaching us.

You made a lot of great points and I’d like to say that while Nero wasn’t actually in Rome when the “Great Fire” began…he was at his ‘Mar a Lago’

like villa outside of Rome where he waited his equivalent of over 3 hours to get back to Rome to watch the fires get put out…Nero was fiddling around! Our “Great Fire” was that January 6th where our nation’s Capital was attacked and stormed (as if by fire) and Trump fiddled around in the White House for over 3 hours before trying to put out the “fires” the storming, rampaging throngs of his supporters to stand down and leave. Hopefully you get my comparison and I hope you see why it fits with your story.

Perfect!

Thanks for the comparison.

Wish I could have thought of it. 😊

Thanks for your deliberative posts. My comments are from an old, disabled, retired and passionate American who still believes in our country. I went to college 5 blocks from the West Wing in the late ‘70’s where my major was politics! Now I have all this time on my hands as I sit in my wheelchair so I like to review posts online and offer my thoughts. I sometimes post on my own just to start people thinking. I’m a huge history buff (remember Will and Ariel Durant’s Lessons of History and their Story of Civilization series books I read in my teens). I really wish the actual history not the ‘whitewashed’ version would be taught in High schools and Colleges. I am afraid of an uneducated population. I believe that’s how we get people in elected offices who also are ill informed or those who simply used their power to get the undereducated people’s votes.

Kings ruled Rome for 244 years. There were 7 of them, the sixth changed the constitution. The seventh was a despot.

Yeah..

Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it!

Tragically, the United States of America may not be doomed to repeat Rome's history.

The MAGAt cult is more likely to be "DUMBED!"

Absolutely wonderful . I’ve read it several times ! Echoed what I’ve been thinking vis a vis the Fall of the Roman Empire! Remove the narcissist orange growth first .. plus all the corruption it has caused .
